East Midlands Ambulance Service 
receives a new 999 call every 45 seconds and is predicting an increase of up to 15 percent in emergency calls over the weekend as the glorious weather continues and England play their first World Cup match.
Joe Garcia, EMAS Associate Director of Operations said: “Using 999 wisely will help our ambulance crews get to people whose life is at immediate risk, and as we prepare for a rise in calls in the lead up to the England match, we are taking this opportunity to remind people of the other NHS services available to them.
“For minor illness or injury such as colds and flu, hay fever, minor sunburn, toothache, bumps and grazes, professional advice and treatment can be given by your local pharmacy, GP including out of hours service, NHS 111 or your local Urgent Care Centre.
“You can make your own way to these services via public transport, friends and family or taxi. We expect to receive an increase in calls at the weekend, and in particular when England play their first game. Our advice – enjoy the tournament, but please take care and be alcohol wise.”
