John started his ambulance career in 1985 and has been a registered paramedic for over 22 years. Entering into the field of Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response in 2002, he has seen the profession transformed into the highly effective and responsive entity it is today.
The regionalisation of ambulance services in 2006 saw John appointed as Head of Resilience and Specialist Operations of South Central Ambulance Service NHS trust (SCAS) – a service caring for a population of 4 million people, covering the counties of Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. He was instrumental in the introduction of HART into SCAS and is central to the continuing development of a doctor led air ambulance service in Hampshire and the Thames Valley.
John has chaired the national EPRR Group for over three years. This group is pivotal in driving forward the national EPRR agenda and is attended by all UK ambulance services. Working closely with NARU the group delivers key national work streams. As chair of the EPRRG, John also sits on NARU’s Central Management Team. John lives on the south coast at Lee-on-the-Solent, with his partner Alison and has two daughters and two step-daughters. He is also a keen cyclist, enjoying the beautiful New Forest.
