Meet Southampton’s emergency first responders

On Sunday, 26 June, paramedics, emergency care assistants and volunteer community first responders will be at the Vedic Society Hindu Temple between 2pm and 5pm. The event will give members of the public the opportunity to talk to staff and volunteers about their roles, take a tour of an emergency ambulance to see the equipment on board as well as the opportunity to learn emergency first aid skills, including CPR, that could help you save someone’s life.

Nikhtya Patel, Senior Patient Experience Officer at SCAS, Community First Responder and Temple Assistant Secretary said:

“In 2016 my uncle suffered a cardiac arrest. I saw first hand the kind of lifesaving CPR that was part of the reason my uncle survived and made a full recovery. When I joined SCAS in 2018, I found out about the community first responder role and knew that this was exactly what I wanted to do in order to give something back to my local community.

“Being able to do CPR and help in an emergency situation has helped me feel a great sense of purpose, knowing I’ve made a real difference not only to that patient’s life but also maybe to their family members.”

There will be talks and demonstrations throughout the day, information on current job and volunteering opportunities with SCAS, as well as activities for children, including the chance to meet 999 Ted.

Entrance to the event is free and the full address is Vedic Society Hindu Temple, 79-195 Radcliffe Road, Northam, Southampton, SO14 0PS.
