Special Operations Response Teams
SORT operatives are drawn from our dedicated team of frontline Paramedics and emergency responders. They are experienced Ambulance Staff who deal with medical emergencies on a day-to-day basis. They have received additional specialist training to support complex emergencies.
Part of their specialist training includes responding to marauding terrorist attacks and incidents involving CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear risks).
SORT staff also support the Ambulance Service response to major incidents, and can tend to other specialist emergency personnel who may become injured whilst attending these difficult and challenging incidents.
Specialist training
SORT personnel must undergo specialist training before they can be deployed.
SORT training is ongoing and features regular fitness assessments, ongoing PPE training and refresher training, reflective practice and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
