This interoperable capability revolves around NHS ambulance staff providing support during a large-scale mass casualty event, for example a significant transport accident (such as a train crash, motorway pile-up or air crash) a terrorist attack or other major incident scenario.

The key features of this capability are:

  • The initial provision to treat up to 100 P1 and 250 P2/P3 category patients.
  • This provision should then be scalable nationally to 2400 P1 and 6000 P2/P3 patients.
  • The establishment and provision of ongoing support to a large casualty clearing station.
