Dramatic footage released of major anti-terror drill on central London’s streets

A major counter-terrorism exercise is being carried out in London to ensure emergency services are ready “should the worst happen”, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan Howe has said.

This operation, which has been planned for over six months, is part of the Government’s regular National Counter Terrorism Programme of exercises and has been developed jointly by the Metropolitan Police Service and the Home Office. Over 14 different organisations and agencies are taking part.

Armed men in balaclavas were seen on a London street, “victims” were treated by emergency services and sounds of gunfire emerged from a disused part of the underground network during the drill.

Dramatic footage of the realism of the Day 1 can be seen on the Channel 4 website.

Footage and pictures from Canary Wharf – Day 2 – can be seen here
