In early 2017 NHS England indicated an intention to review the interoperable capabilities of ambulance services and tasked NARU with providing support, mainly through subject matter expertise.
Both the Director of Operations and Head of EPRR at NHS England expressed a desire for these reviews to examine the interoperable capabilities in more detail than previous reviews or assurance processes.
NHS England and NARU wrote to all ambulance Chief Executives through a Gateway letter earlier this year explaining the process and releasing the inspection schedule.
